Asbestos Audits

An Asbestos Audit is the first step in locating and identifying asbestos containing material (ACM) within the workplace or domestic building. ASB Consulting conducts Asbestos Audits in both commercial and residential properties by performing a thorough visual inspection of all accessible areas and where necessary conducting material sampling on suspected material and having them analysed by a NATA accredited laboratory.

Asbestos Register

ASB Consulting helps organisations maintain strict new workplace regulation when it comes to managing asbestos at the workplace.

R It is now mandatory for workplaces to maintain an asbestos register
R Owners must provide an asbestos audit and register when releasing or selling the building

An asbestos register is a written record that identifies all asbestos known and assumed to exist within a building.

An Asbestos Register is now mandatory in all workplaces built prior to 2004!

Asbestos Management Plan

An asbestos management plan must be written in relation to identified or assumed asbestos or ACM that has been identified in the asbestos register. The asbestos management plan must include:

R the identification of the asbestos or ACM (e.g. a reference or link to the asbestos register and location of signs and labels)
R decisions and reasons about management of asbestos such as safe work procedures and control measures
R procedures for dealing with accidents, incidents or emergencies in relation to asbestos or ACM
R workers carrying out work involving asbestos (e.g. consultation, information and training responsibilities).

The plan must be readily accessible to workers and others at the workplace, kept up to date, and be reviewed at least once every five years or sooner if:

R a control measure or the register is reviewed
R asbestos is removed from, or disturbed, sealed or enclosed
R the plan is no longer adequate for managing asbestos or ACM at the workplace
R a health and safety representative requests a review in certain circumstances.
